FCCM Lantern Festival 2025 Celebrated at Markham Civic Centre with National and Municipal Leaders

The Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham FCCM proudly hosted the Lantern Festival 2025 at the Markham Civic Centre, welcoming community members, cultural leaders, and distinguished guests for a vibrant celebration marking the conclusion of the Lunar New Year season.

The event was honoured by the presence of Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of Markham, who joined the community in celebrating this meaningful cultural occasion. Markham Ward Councillors were also in attendance, demonstrating strong municipal support and reinforcing the importance of cultural inclusion within the city. Their participation highlighted the collaborative relationship between FCCM and local leadership in fostering a united and diverse community.

Traditionally symbolizing reunion, harmony, and hope, the Lantern Festival serves as an opportunity for families and friends to gather and celebrate heritage. Message from the Prime Minister of Canada

Although the Prime Minister of Canada was not in attendance, he sent an official congratulatory letter in recognition of the FCCM Opening Ceremony and Reception for the inaugural Lantern Festival.

In his message, he extended his best wishes to all attendees and acknowledged the significant contributions Chinese Canadians make in enriching Canada’s cultural fabric and strengthening the nation’s diversity. He emphasized that recognizing and celebrating cultural traditions helps reinforce unity within communities and across the country.
