Taste of Asia Festival 2026 – National Launch Celebrates Asian Heritage Month

The Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham (Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham) proudly hosted a national reception on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on May 27, 2026, marking Asian Heritage Month and the official launch of the 24th Annual Taste of Asia Festival.

The event highlighted the importance of Asian Heritage Month and Canada’s multicultural identity, bringing national attention to one of the country’s largest cultural celebrations.

Government Support & Community Leadership

The reception was co-hosted with the support of the Government of Canada and Tim Hodgson, and brought together Members of Parliament, diplomatic representatives, and community leaders to celebrate cultural diversity and unity across Canada.

FCCM was also pleased to have Markham Ward 2 Councillor Ritch Lau and Ward 8 Councillor Isa Lee serve as Masters of Ceremonies, helping guide the evening’s program and celebrations.

Diplomatic Participation & Cultural Exchange

The event welcomed ambassadors, high commissioners, and diplomatic representatives from across Asia, including China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal, and Myanmar.

Their participation reflected a shared commitment to strengthening cultural exchange, friendship, and cooperation between Canada and Asian nations.

TOA 2026 Festival Theme Announcement

During the reception, FCCM Chairman Dr. Ken Ng announced that China will be the official country theme for Taste of Asia 2026.

This announcement was inspired by recent developments in Canada–China relations, including Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to China earlier this year, and reflects the continued cultural connection and growing friendship between the two countries.

Remarks & Appreciation

FCCM extended sincere appreciation to Ambassador Wang for his meaningful speech and continued support in promoting Canada–China friendship, cultural understanding, and cross-cultural dialogue.

His remarks emphasized the importance of building stronger relationships through respect, collaboration, and shared cultural celebration.

Celebrating Diversity & Culture

As one of Canada’s largest Asian cultural festivals, Taste of Asia continues to bring communities together through food, performances, arts, and cultural experiences.

The 24th Annual Festival will continue its mission of celebrating diversity, friendship, and the vibrant contributions of Asian communities to Canada’s multicultural society.
